Punishment is rarely offered out of cruelty of meanness. It is given out of love, to dissuade us from actiona which might hurt us worse.God punishes sinners to show them that there is a better way. He imposes rules on us, not to make our lives less than they can be, but to make them the very best that they can be. His rod is stern, but it is applied only in love, to that we might have life and have more abundantly. God deals with all of His children with love and grace. If we will know that, then we will grow in the ways of God, and be happy.
