Sadly, we look at God's commandments as a matter of life and death. We break an occasional commandment, and nothing much seems to happen. We don't realize that sin builds a wall between us and God. Asking His forgiveness beaks a wall, but we have to be faithful to do that. Sin is a matter of life or death. The wages of sin is death. There are no two ways about it. It is good to know that God is quick to forgive, and that He will do everything in His power to make sure that we will come back to Him. We must pay attention to God's will and do what is expected of us, and we must also try to take every opportunity to help others do what is expected.
